Abstract: |
The physical mechanism by which an active galactic nucleus (AGN) can drive molecular gas out of a galaxy is still a matter of some debate. Molecular gas chemistry is potentially a powerful tool which can be used to constrain the mechanism driving AGN powered molecular outflows. Jet and wind driven outflows will leave a different imprint on the chemistry of outflowing gas, that is clearly distinguishable with unbiased line-surveys using the ALMA telescope.
We present a simple model of an AGN outflow, showing how spatial and spectral information for a range of molecular tracers can be used to help distinguish the driver. We then highlight the case of NGC1266, a local early-type galaxy with an outflow that would be a prime candidate for such a study. |
