Abstract: |
A goal of cultural astronomy is an understanding of the meaning and value of astronomy in ancient cultures and, as a consequence, new insights into the nature of the culture itself. In many cultures there appear to be unique connections between astronomy, cultural traditions and the environment, which include both landscape and skyscape. In some cases, with sufficient knowledge of a culture, one can anticipate its astronomy. Three cases are presented where astronomy appears to be a natural consequence of the culture and its environment. |
