Abstract: The Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO) is one of the most important organizations in Armenia. It is a National Value officially recognized by the Republic of Armenia (RA) Government in 2012. The BAO plays not only a great role in Armenian science and its scientific achievements, but also in Armenian culture, education, and science outreach. BAO has a unique architectural ensemble of buidlings and a rich botanical garden recently recognized as dendropark by an agreement with the RA Ministry of Ecology. BAO is one of the most frequently visited touristic centers in Armenia. The famous Markarian Survey, a unique spectroscopic sky survey that led to many discoveries, was included in the UNESCO “Memory of the World” International Register in 2011. BAO is a symbol that represents the country to the rest of the world.
