Abstract: The advent of high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy has provided a number of new ways to probe the X-ray emission of B stars, resulting in a large amount of new information which has been difficult to develop into a simple framework. This paper concentrates on the X-ray spectra of Spica and β Cen, two β Cep variables which are in other respects typical B stars. Three main topics are discussed: their X-ray line profiles, the f/i ratios from He-like ions, and their X-ray lightcurves.
