Paper: Music Inspired by Astronomy: 250 Pieces and Counting
Volume: 524, Advancing Astronomy for All (ASP 2018)
Page: 61

Abstract: I have compiled a new catalog of more than 250 pieces of music that were inspired by serious astronomy, from the realms of both classical and popular music. The music is almost always freely available on a channel like YouTube, and direct links are provided in the catalog. The list includes a Hubble Cantata, a Supernova Sonata, and Eight Songs about Black Holes with reasonable science, to give a few examples. These pieces can be used to add luster to a class or lecture, to challenge students to find further examples, or to show how widely astronomical ideas have traveled in our culture.
