Abstract: In a 2.5-hour session at ASP 2018 on Indigenous Knowledge in the 21st Century, our group of eight panelists spoke on the indigenous knowledge and sky traditions of the Navajo, Native Hawaiian and Maya people, and the importance of including indigenous perspectives in creating an inclusive sustainable culture in academia and our institutions. In this context, we presented our ongoing work on understanding the discovery of the number zero in India and its influence on mathematics globally, Hindu thought and spirituality, and Indian culture.
