Abstract. One goal of many introductory astronomy courses is for students to understand the big ideas in astronomy. Drawing on the idea that we learn best when we teach others, I will describe a unique learning and teaching experience for introductory astronomy students, where they prepare and facilitate hands-on activities for a half-day science open house at a small liberal arts college. In this poster, I will describe the STEM outreach event, project expectations for the students, assessment requirements of the instructor, and share student feedback about their required participation in the event. |
