Abstract: |
We implemented so-called skymaps, i. e., entities representing certain
parts of the celestial sphere, as first-class data types within the open source
object-relational database management system PostgreSQL, as
a) sky coverage objects, following the MOC standard of the International
Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA), and as
b) partial maps of the sky, mapping a set of HEALPix sky elements of a certain
resolution to a floating-point value each.
We report useful associated analysis functions in the context of a relational
database management system, and implementation specifics with respect
to PostgreSQL. |
