Abstract: The “Great American Eclipse” was an opportunity to spark the interest in science of diverse audiences. The public is usually interested when they receive information from the media regarding astronomical phenomena. Outreach specialists at Universities have the opportunity to recruit students to participate in outreach events and to help news reporters to present the topics clearly to the public. Activities that encourage social interactions promote social responsibility in the students and help the public learn in an active way. In this article we present the experience of the “Great American Eclipse” in 2017 as seen from Puerto Rico.
