Abstract: |
The Astronomy Cast Podcast leveraged the 2017 “Great American Eclipse” to increase community connectedness. This was a follow-on event to a 2012 “End of the World” cruise, and in turn led to the community planned “Astronomy Cast 500” celebration. These events demonstrated that science communities built around media programs are enhanced through real-world engagement. Differences between programs allowed us to identify key factors, such as information-rich name badges, and digital-sharing mechanisms, and removal of barriers between organizers and at-tendees. |
