1D and 2D hydrodynamic simulations are performed to assess the role of convection in determining the mode or mode mixtures of full amplitude RR Lyrae models. Only the fundamental and first overtone are considered. We compute the full amplitude of a mode, then add a perturbation of the other mode and continue the hydrodynamic simulation to see if the perturbation grows or decays. Preliminary 1D results indicate limited growth of the fundamental mode from the full amplitude first overtone for a model just to the red of the fundamental blue edge. All full amplitude fundamental modes were stable. The one 2D calculation to date showed an initial growth of the fundamental mode from the full amplitude first overtone, as in the 1D case, but then showed a decay as the mixed mode altered the convective properties. |
