Abstract: |
The Virtual Observatory (VO) is a noble goal for astrophysics and will put enormous new powers onto the scientist's desktop. Content for the VO is a serious issue that requires more attention. There is a shortage of quality data for the VO to deliver. It is our view that data centres should take a leading role in producing quality content and CADC is taking action to do that. We are currently working on a functional VO prototype system, a distributed processing infrastructure, and the problem of complex and iterative queries on large databases. In the near future we will be part of the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey which will generate enormous volumes of data products that will be suitable for the Virtual Observatory. We are pursuing partnerships and funding to enable us to expand the scope of our VO work. |
