| Abstract: |
The IRAM 30-meter millimetre radio telescope is located in the Observatorio de Pico Veleta in Granada, Spain and has been continuously operating around the clock since its inauguration in 1984. It is still one of the most sensitive and powerful telescopes worldwide in its frequency range. It has been recognised as one of the facilities within the Spanish Map of Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS). IRAM has embarked in an ambitious project to upgrade the 30-meter to keep it in the research leading edge in the coming years. The planned refurbishment will include a new servo control system for the mount and sub-reflector, comprising hardware and software components, and upgrades in the primary reflector to improve the thermal behaviour, surface accuracy and gain-elevation curve. This contribution gives some details on the planned actions, that will be co-financed by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme. |
