| Abstract: |
A look at the Arkansas BalloonSAT team's Eclipse 2024 plans two and one-half years from the eclipse. Plans are to fly at least two, more if funding is available, 2000-gram balloons with 12 lb. (53.4 N) payloads. These will be launched in the eclipse path from the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, Petti Jean Mountain in central Arkansas and the Star Dust Ranch Observatory, Marcella, Arkansas. These locations are in the center line of the umbra and will experience a few seconds of totality at the same time. The 2000-gram balloons will carry a variety of instruments including live feed video cameras. Also, several smaller 600-gram balloons with 2–4 lb. (8.9–17.8 N) payloads will be launched from various locations along the eclipse path. These smaller balloons can carry small HAM radio transmitters that can also be part of Arkansas Space Grant Consortium's HAM radio project during the eclipse. |
