Abstract: GD 362 is a massive, rather cool white dwarf with a heavy accretion disk surrounding it. The dusty disk around GD 362 produces an excess of infrared radiation and its chemical composition is also rather singular, showing very high abundances of Ca, Mg and Fe. The origin of such particularly high photospheric abundances and of the surrounding dusty disk still remains a mystery and it is the matter of an active ongoing debate. One of the possibilities is that this massive white dwarf is the result of the merger of a double white dwarf close binary system. In this contribution we evaluate such possibility.
