Abstract: We explore whether the systematic difference between asteroseismological and spectroscopic masses in PG1159–type stars can be understood in terms of uncertainties in mass-loss rates and/or third dredge-up efficiencies in the TP–AGB. We find that neither of them can account for the discrepancy.
