The Hubble sequence is based only on morphological appearance, but Hubble type correlates strongly with mass and most other physical parameters that describe galaxies. As quantitative observations of galaxies reach very high redshift, and theoretical models of structure formation improve, we have made substantial progress in understanding of how the Hubble sequence came to be. |
