Abstract: We present the first survey of (Ultra)-Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs, 1011LIR <1012L; ULIRGs LIR >1012L) using optical integral field spectroscopy (IFS). This work is part of a large project aimed at study- ing the internal physical structure and kinematics of (U)LIRGs using different ground-based facilities. Here we briefly present the project and discuss the most important results obtained so far for the structure of the stellar and ionized gas, the 2D ionization state and the gas kinematics. Finally, two different approaches used to simulate how future IR instruments will detect these galaxies at high-z are presented too.
