Abstract: |
Currently attainable ground-based astrometric precision is near one milliarcsecond for the measurement of relative parallax. Assuming that the accuracy is similar, direct astrometric measurement of the distance to many stars of astrophysical interest, including those used in distance scale calibration, ought to be possible once technical problems are solved. These issues are discussed and some solutions are presented. |
