Abstract: The presence of infalling gas features in the spectra of some of the nearer Herbig Ae/Be stars has been recognized for a decade. Similar features have been routinely observed in the optical and UV spectrum of β Pictoris since the mid-1980s, while infalling gas features and strong, variable stellar winds are observed in a number of T Tauri stars. Criteria for distinguishing between infall of comparatively undifferentiated disk material and the features expected to be associated with falling evaporating bodies will be summarized and compared with recent imagery, long slit spectroscopy, and UV spectra for several Herbig Ae stars.
