Abstract: The application of optimal inversion techniques to astronomical data in order to develop a set of procedures to determine the 3D structure of astronomical source is examined. It is shown how constraints of symmetry and smoothness source permit an inversion with an insufficiently sampled data base and mutually dependent solution parameters to be handled.
