Abstract: An overview is presented of the late stages of close binary star evolution, giving attention to the distribution of systems with compact remnants over the semiamplitude of their radial velocity variation. Within the limits of the present approximate transformations, reasonable agreement is achieved with observations. An exploration has been conducted for double degenerate dwarfs, blue subdwarfs, double radio pulsars, W-R stars with relativistic components, neutron stars, and degenerate dwarfs in orbit with main-sequence companions, obtaining reasonable agreement in most cases.
