Abstract: The southern pair of interacting galaxies NGC 6872/IC 4970 consists of a very large (> 100 kpc), barred spiral galaxy perturbed by a small companion. We present observations of the large-scale distribution and kinematics of the atomic gas toward that system. HI gas is found in an extended disk with large concentrations in the outer parts of the main galaxy. The observations provide strong constraints for numerical simulations of the evolution of this system.
