Abstract: A full treatment of the gravitational lensing problem is described. This treatment attempts to determine the fraction of bright quasars which are lensed and considers whether the shape of the quasar luminosity function can be used to place a limit on the amount of clumped matter in the universe. It is shown that if realistic gravitational lens models are considered a substantial part of the bright end of the quasar luminosity function might be due to gravitational lensing. Given the new data on quasar-galaxy associations, the possibility of a gravitational lens bias must be seriously considered.
