Abstract: Mathematical morphology has been applied to extragalactic fields of IRAS sources for the purpose of removing the Galactic infrared cirrus emission from the fields. Sieving was used to create a spatial structure spectrum for distinguishing the Galactic cirrus structure from the extragalactic structure. From the structure spectrum a filter function was formed and then used to greatly reduce the Galactic cirrus from the image. The results on the M81 field show a pronounced reduction in the local cirrus.
