Abstract: The Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a NASA sponsored effort to make astronomical data and services available to the astronomical community. It is based on a client/server architecture. The data are maintained and stored by the ADS data centers. The users selectively retrieve only data necessary for their research. Services currently available include catalog access to over 250 catalogs, access to data archives at HEASARC (ROSAT), IPAC (IRAS all sky survey), NSSDC (NDADS archive), SAO (Einstein archive), access to over 150,000 astronomy and astrophysics abstracts, the SIMBAD astronomical object database in Strasbourg, France and the NASA Extragalactic Database at IPAC. Local services provided by ADS include a local database system and table editor, as well as plot, image display and mapping tools. The ADS is available to all interested users free of charge.
