Abstract: |
The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum offered its first Spanish language course in 2001 as part of its efforts to reach the Spanish-speaking community in the city of Chicago. The naked eye astronomy course, entitled Espectáculo Celeste: Astronomía a Simple Vista, was designed for a general audience. It examined celestial phenomena using Adler's historic Sky Theater and its Zeiss projector. Challenges in informing this audience about museum programs were identified during the development of special programs and currently are being addressed. Given the strong positive response to this course, the Adler Planetarium is planning to offer courses in Spanish on a regular basis, as well as explore other opportunities to interact with the Spanish-speaking community in Chicago. |
