Abstract: |
We present a new limit to the detection of hydrogen-deuteride in Galactic sources. HD is important to the chemistry of molecular clouds, and is also of relevance to the determination of the interstellar HD/{rm H}_2 abundance and hence to cosmological models. HD is the simplest deuterated molecule, and by seeking to detect it in comparatively well understood sources, we aim provide real observational constraints for these models. Using CGS4 on UKIRT, observations have been made of the Orion Bar region, Peak 1 in the Orion Molecular cloud and the planetary nebula NGC2023. These are presented and interpreted using Sternberg's model for the fluorescent emission spectrum. |
