Abstract: |
We present HST WFPC2 narrow band images of the remarkably complex bipolar nebula Hubble 5. The images reveal the presence of filamentary structures in the core region which may correspond to collimated flows in various directions. The lobes also show disorganized filamentary structures and complex ionization patterns. The study of the ionization structure of Hubble 5 is complemented with deep spatially resolved long-slit spectroscopy obtained with the Double Spectrograph on the Palomar Hale Telescope. The results illustrate the complexity of the ionization structures and the potential uncertainties in the total chemical abundances derived from the empirical iCF method. |
