Abstract: Results of the application of the modification of the ACF analysis of the brightness variations of dwarf nova stars of various subclasses are discussed. The moments of crossing zero by the ACF may correspond to the full width of the relatively narrow outburst. The first maximum corresponds to the mean outburst cycle. However, if the cycle significantly varies, this will lead to a 'blur' of the maximum, which becomes wider and less high. If the supercycle is present, then for some systems, it is constant enough to produce high peaks at a shift corresponding to this supercycle length. The influence of regular (daily, monthly, annual) gaps in observations onto the ACF bias is discussed. The method may be applied to other types of astrophysical processes, e.g. quasi-periodic oscillations in the accretion discs around white dwarfs, astroseismological pulsations for a preliminary period determination.
