Abstract: VLA mosaics of the irregular galaxies NGC 4449 and IC 10 reveal amazingly complex distributions of gas in their near environments. While in the case of NGC 4449 the complexity represents the result of an encounter with a nearby neighbor, IC 10 appears to be accreting gas from its own extended reservoir. Similarly, a number of other galaxies are currently accreting clumps of HI that may represent the last vestiges of the galaxy formation process. While the environments of extremely isolated galaxies are seen to be devoid of HI, it is common for irregulars in group environments to be endowed with large distributions of far-flung gas.
