Abstract: In the late 1960's David Lambert and his colleagues made major strides in the quest to accurately define the chemical composition of our Sun. This area of research is as active today as it was 35 years ago. A major factor in the latest improvements to photospheric abundances (as has been true for decades) is the substantial increase in the quality and quantity of laboratory atomic data. In this review we will highlight recent successes and continuing challenges in the solar abundance field.
