Abstract: |
The precision of astrometric measurements can, in some cases, be greatly enhanced by incorporation of reliable additional information in a Bayesian formulation. This paper reports an apparently successful such application to Delta Cepheid variables observed with Hipparcos: incorporation of a standard kinematic model reduces the parallax inference error by about a factor of 3, with no apparent bias; allowing reliable inference of Cepheid luminosities and the elimination of formal probabilities of negative parallax. |
