Abstract: |
Observed for nearly 100 years, the solar chromospheric magnetic field is, to first order, a weaker and more diffuse extension of the underlying photospheric magnetic field. With closer scrutiny, the chromospheric magnetic field exhibits many wonderful and mysterious differences. This brief review focuses on some aspects of our present understanding of the nature of the chromospheric field emphasizing differences with the photospheric field. Some areas are highlighted which have unexpected discrepancies that need further study. |
