Abstract: |
V471 Tau is a pre-cataclysmic, post-common envelope binary consisting of a
white dwarf and a main sequence star with an orbital period of 0.521183439
days. The eclipses in the system are characterised by a fast drop to minimum
as well as by a fast increase from minimum. Recently we
analysed the (O-C) diagram of this system (Kundra & Hric 2010) and solved the
long-term problem of its behaviour. We showed that it is
only possible to explain this behaviour by assuming the presence of a third
body in the system. Our solution indicates a brown dwarf in an eccentric orbit
with a period of 33.2 years. Analysing the (O-C) diagram in detail
we noticed additional variations most pronounced in the residuals
after the subtraction of the third body influence. One possible explanation
are spots on the red dwarf surface, which can produce a deformation of the
minima as well as affect the accuracy of the times of these minima. The other
possibility is that there is another body in the system, i.e. an extrasolar
planet. |
