Abstract: |
WEAVE will provide ∼1000 multiplex spectroscopy, fed by a new
2 degree field of view at prime focus on the WHT. The prime focus
positioner hosts 2 sets of single-fiber 1.3'' MOS
pickoffs, 20 small integral field units (∼ 11'×12''), and a single large, ∼ 1.3' ×
1.5' integral field unit. These fiber modes feed a single,
dual-beam spectrograph located within the WHT's GHRIL enclosure. The
spectrograph provides R=5000 spectroscopy over the full range from
366 nm to 950 nm, or two smaller ranges at R=20000. These modes are
fixed. The intention of WEAVE is to operate in survey mode with a
number of community-driven projects merged into joint science
observations. In this paper I summarize the instrument
design and performance parameters. |
