Abstract: We present a stellar population study of a sample of 51 LINER and LINER/HII transition galaxies. We find that approximately 50% of the sample present evidence of significant amounts of young and intermediate age stars. We also compare the stellar population synthesis results with the emission line properties of these galaxies. We find that most of the galaxies with significant contribution from stars with ages between 10 Myr and 1 Gyr to the spectrum have [OI]/Hα < 0.25, suggesting that stellar processes may provide a significant source of ionization for their nuclear gas.
