| Abstract: |
We discuss how observations of ammonia and formaldehyde in nearby galaxies using the next generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) would advance our understanding of star formation physics across different environments by providing robust estimates of gas density and temperature. Currently such observations are mainly performed using filled-aperture antennas that, at best, only crudely distinguish nuclear from disk regions. The ngVLA will map these lines in emission or absorption across the nearest galaxies, and prove especially powerful in combination with ALMA. |
