Abstract: |
The chemical compositions of molecular clouds are sensitive probe of their physical properties and external environments. In galactic centers, their physical conditions as well as the external factors are different from spiral-arm clouds. They tend to have elevated density and temperature. Depending on the activity of star formation and the central supermassive black holes, the chemistry is strongly influenced by UV photons, cosmic rays, X-rays, and shocks. That means that the chemistry can be used to study these activities. Here I summarize how these activities affect the chemistry in the context of our Galactic center and galactic centers of external galaxies. In addition, I discuss the presence of complex organic molecules in galactic centers and factors that affect their abundances. Taking the definition of chemistry wider, I also briefly discuss ratios of isotopologues in their relation with the history of stellar processes. |
