The Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) of our galaxy is a region of complex gas dynamics and it is considered an extreme present-day star-forming environment. Due to its proximity, the CMZ has been subject to numerous observations aiming to study the multitude of ongoing physical processes governing the evolution of its molecular gas reservoir. In recent years, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) has been used to map the filamentary structure and star-forming cores of G0.253+0.016, also known as the Brick. In this contribution, we connect these observations with a set of recent cloud-evolution numerical simulations by presenting synthetic observations of the Brick. The synthetic observations are created using line radiative transfer for a set of molecules, and are further processed to account for the ALMA antennae configuration. We present a quantitative comparison between the real and synthetic observations by considering the fractal dimension of the emission maps. We expect this comparison to help improve the theoretical models, but it also highlights the need for further, specifically tailored observations. |
