Abstract: Parallel computations deliver quicker and higher computational throughput as high-performance computing (HPC) resources become widely available. In this paper, we describe slmpi_emcee, an extension of the S-Lang Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) hammer that has been parallelized using the Message Passing Interface (MPI) protocol for functioning on parallel computing architectures. The S-Lang MCMC hammer implements the emcee ensemble sampler on the Interactive Spectral Interpretation System (ISIS) X-ray data analysis tool. With the help of HPC resources, the parallelized S-Lang MCMC hammer speeds up a Bayesian analysis to find the probability distributions for the best-fitting parameters of a spectral model fitted to X-ray data on ISIS.
