Abstract: |
XMM-Newton, a flagship mission of the European Space Agency (ESA),
is dedicated to studying celestial X-ray sources. Equipped with powerful X-ray de-
tectors and spectrographs, it provides scientists with invaluable data about high-energy
phenomena in the universe. The Science Analysis System (SAS) is indispensable in the
analysis of this data. It offers a comprehensive suite of tools and algorithms tailored
specifically for handling X-ray observations. These tools enable scientists to calibrate,
process, and extract meaningful information from the raw data obtained by XMM-Newton’s instruments. The XMM-Newton Science Operation Centre has been working
to bring modern technologies to keep SAS running for more than 20 years. The goal
of this contribution is to share the current transformation from software building environments based on physical servers orchestrated by Cron jobs to containerized building
environments orchestrated by a modern CI tool, and the impact of this transformation
in the release cycle of SAS. |
