Abstract: |
A large optical interferometer with kilometric baselines could image and perform imaging spectroscopy of active galactic nuclei with sub-milli-arcsecond resolution. This would enable detailed studies of nuclear stellar clusters, black holes, jets, and broad-line regions. Advances in telescope technology and fiber optics expected for the next decade may bring the cost of a large synthesis array into a range that would be affordable as an international project. |
