Abstract: |
The optical, ultraviolet and near-IR observations of Herbig-Haro (HH) objects are reviewed emphasizing especially spatially resolved spectroscopy and the resulting diagnostic possibilities. The present state of the interpretation of high resolution long-slit spectra and of 'monochromatic images' in terms of detailed hydrodynamic models (especially bow shock and 'jet-working-surface' models) is discussed. Finally, a few selected problems concerning the 'exciting' stars of HH objects are considered. Attempts to obtain empirical information about the circumstellar regions in which the collimation of the jets occur are particularly emphasized. |
