Abstract: The organization, display, and manipulation of all-sky data from the Diffuse Infrared Background Experiment (DIRBE), a 10 band photometer on the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) mission is depicted. The information carried along with each pixel-based map record is described. The sky data are projected onto the 6 faces of a cube and stored in an array. We discuss the tools used to retrieve, manipulate, and display the map data. Finally, the problems encountered and lessons learned in building this large astronomical software system are presented.
