Abstract: The introduction of the first electronic astronomy journal by the American Astronomical Society (AAS) allows scientists to conduct research in a new way; with information available electronically from start to finish. Over the past three years, the AAS developed a comprehensive electronic publishing system, and produced a wide variety of electronic products and services, culminating in the September 1995 debut of the Electronic Astrophysical Journal Letters (EApJL). We learned a number of lessons during the development of the Electronic Letters, most of which are relevant for researchers as well as organizations as we move into an era where the Internet is the prominent information and communication resource.
