Paper: Nucleosynthesis in red giant stars: predictions versus observations

Abstract: The production of lithium and sodium in low- and intermediate-mass stars is reviewed and compared to observations. Like for many other elements, reviewed in IAU Symp.187, the observed abundances of lithium and sodium in red giants suggest the operation of extra-mixing processes in the interiors of at least a group of low- and intermediate-mass stars, not taken into account by standard models.
