Abstract: The current situation regarding the problem of the Sun–Galactic center distance, R0, is discussed. A new three-dimensional classification of R0 measurements is suggested. Despite the importance of certain of recent results reviewed, overall progress in solving the problem of R0 remains slow. At this time a “best value” for R0, based upon 65 original R0 estimates from 57 works published since 1974, is 7.9 + 0.2 kpc.
