Abstract: I will review recent developments in our understanding of the early Evolution of galactic centers, and will focus on three questions: - Are galaxy-galaxy interactions and mergers only providing the fuel for nuclear activities or are they also instrumental in building "the engine" in the first place? - How can an accretion disk overcome the angular momentum barrier and bridge "the last hundred parsecs"? - Where have all the quasars gone?
