Abstract: We report preliminary findings from the development and prototyping of the Black Hole Experiment Gallery, a NASA and NSF-funded national traveling exhibition and related educational materials on black holes. Among the innovations described are partnerships with community-based programs that enable culturally diverse youth to collaborate in exhibit development; and computer-networked technology that helps personalize visitors’ exhibit experiences through the creation of a “digital diary,” that extends learning beyond the gallery, and that collects embedded evaluation data.
